7 days Kilimanjaro trek
Day 1:
After breakfast in the hotel (with your picnic lunch boxes), drive to Machame Gate (alt. 1800m). The drive takes about 30 to 40 minutes. Start the 5-6 hour hike through the rainforest until you reach Machame Hut (alt. 3000m) for dinner and overnight.
Day 2:
After breakfast (with your packed lunch), start the ascend to Shira Camp, which takes about 3-4 hours. This day you end the walk through the rain forest, and start walking through the Moorland. If the sky is clear, you will have a clear view of Mount Meru, Kibo Peak and the villages down from the mountain. Dinner and overnight at Shira Camp (alt. 3840m).
Day 3:
After breakfast (with your picnic lunch box), start the ascend to Baranco Camp, which takes 5-6 hours. This day it is also important to have an acclimatization walk. Then you walk to Lava Tower (alt.4600m), then down to Baranco Camp (alt.3940m) for dinner and overnight.
Day 4:
This will be a short day which takes only 3-4 hours. Soon after breakfast ascend the great Baranco Wall, then cross around the bas of the summit. Then you will be heading on to Karanga Valley Camp (alt.4100m) for hot lunch, short rest, dinner and overnight.
Day 5:
After breakfast start the ascend through the alpine desert to Barafu Camp. There you will get hot lunch before you climb at least 200 meters higher. Dinner and overnight will take place at Barafu Camp (alt.4600m).
Day 6:
After a cup of tea or coffee with some bites around midnight, start the ascend to the summit, which takes 5-6 hours. It is recommended to walk this last part slowly. At the time around sunrise, you will be at the summit at Uhuru Peak (alt.5895m). After short breakof summit celebrations, descend to Barafu Camp for lunch and a short rest, before you continue to Mweka Camp (alt.3000m) or dinner and overnight.
Day 7:
After breakfast start the descend through the rain forest to Mweka Gate.This walk takes about 2-3 hours. There you will catch a waiting car for the drive back to Moshi.
