Tongoni ruins tour

This tour can be done on bike or by car for the same price;

If you wish to go by bike you bike from Tanga town to Tongoni ruins on the Pangani road with a guide from Ilya Tours and solid mountain bikes. Bring water and snack yourself.

Price per person is USD 25,- if 3 people or more. If less than 3 people USD 35,- per person.

A little info about Tongoni:

Tongoni ruins is located about 17km from Tanga City, comprising a mosque and over forty graves. The ruins  are all the remains of a small but prosperous town which peaked shortly after being founded in the 14^th and 15^th Centuries.

Tongoni contains the largest collection of Shiraz tombs in East Africa and indicates the prosperity it enjoyed before the arrival of the Portuguese disrupted the trading routes on which coastal towns like Tongoni depended. The settlement of Tongoni was mentioned by Vasco da Gama in April 1498 en route to India.
